Carriacou on water schedule as Desal plant unable to meet demand

While several communities in Grenada are already under valve regulation schedules due to the ongoing effects of the 2024 dry season, the sister isle of Carriacou has now also been placed on a water regulation and distribution schedule.

The National Water and Sewerage Authority (NAWASA) has advised consumers served by the Carriacou Desalination Plant, that the plant’s current production capacity is insufficient to meet the demand of the serving population.

NAWASA says a water regulation schedule must be implemented to ensure equitable distribution of the limited supply. It is effective immediately and until further notice.

Schedules have been established for both metered customers and those who rely on water delivered by trucks. The Authority is also advising consumers of the importance of storing a water supply to last a minimum of three days.

NAWASA apologises for any inconvenience that may arise from this situation, as it adds this is necessary to ensure fair distribution of the limited water supply.

The Authority had initially informed that due to urgent system maintenance, the water supply to consumers served by the Carriacou Desalination Plant had been temporarily interrupted.

The expected restoration time was supposed to be on Friday evening.
