NHC says tropical wave could become Tropical Storm Beryl this weekend
The US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) has said the second storm of this year’s hurricane season could form within the next 24 to 48 hours.
In an update this morning, the NHC said a tropical wave, which has been dubbed Invest 95L, is showing signs of organisation.
“Environmental conditions appear conducive for additional development, and a tropical depression or tropical storm is likely to form over the next day or two,” NHC said.
If the system develops into a tropical storm, it will be called Beryl.
Early models for the system show it could have some impact on the southern Windward Islands.
There are currently no warnings or advisories for the system however anyone with interests in the area should pay close attention to its development.
Else where in the Atlantic, a tropical wave centred a few hundred miles south-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands is producing disorganised showers and thunderstorms.
NHC said there is the possibility for some slow development of the system early next week while it moves generally westward across the central and western tropical Atlantic at 15 to 20 mph.
In the western Caribbean Sea, a broad area of low pressure is producing widespread but disorganised shower and thunderstorm activity.
“Some development of this system is possible over the northwestern Caribbean Sea or over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico during the next few days,” NHC said.
