Dom Rep’s Marileidy Paulino wins 400m gold, sets new Olympic record
The Caribbean retains the 400-meter Olympic gold as Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic claimed victory in this afternoon’s hotly contested final.
Paulino stormed to the finish line running a time of 48.17 seconds, which is a new Olympic Record and the fourth fastest time in history.
The 27-year-old, is who the reigning world champion, was a favourite for gold.
It’s her second medal in the event as she won silver in the delayed Tokyo games behind Bahamian Shaunae Miller-Uibo.
Salwa Eid Naser of Bahrain was second and Poland’s Natalia Kaczmarek was third.
Sada Williams of Barbados finished in seventh place with a time of 49.83 seconds.
