Belize: Three national footballers referred for disciplinary action

The Football Federation of Belize (FFB) has announced that it will take disciplinary action on three National team players from the Belize Men’s National Team, who chose not to participate in yesterday’s match against Nicaragua after citing contractual differences.

The FFB identified the players as Michael Salazar, Nanah Mensah and Deshown Nembhard.

The federation notes the players took this decision just four hours before kickoff, significantly impacting the team’s performance in the match.

Belize lost 4-0 to Nicaragua in the FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifying match on Saturday.

The FFB said the players in question were training with their national team counterparts for over a week. The Federation lamented that the sudden withdrawal of these three players, two of whom were part of the starting eleven, necessitated critical last minute changes by the coaching staff.

The Federation said the matter will be referred to the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee of the FFB for revision. A transcript of the details will be forwarded to Concacaf.

The Belize Jaguars depart the country today as they travel to Barbados for their match against Guyana.
