BVI: International flights return to Captain Auguste George Airport
The Captain Auguste George Airport on Anegada, British Virgin Islands has resumed accepting international flights.
The first planes to touch down were Fly BVI and Island Birds flights from San Juan, Puerto Rico and St Thomas, US Virgin Islands on March 23.
Minister for Communications and Works Kye Rymer said the reintroduction of international flights is a testament to the government’s commitment to revitalising the local economy and maintaining the highest standards of aviation safety.
“This initiative not only highlights our dedication to expanding air connectivity but also underscores our commitment to fostering economic growth in the Virgin Islands,” Rymer said
The minister said this significant milestone as it enhances connectivity and accessibility for visitors to the neighbouring.
Rymer stated: “The inclusion of foreign flights into Anegada signifies a strategic move to showcase the natural beauty and warm hospitality of the island, thereby attracting more visitors.”
He added that granting access to international aircraft from key hubs like San Juan, St Thomas, and St Martin, opens up new opportunities for the local businesses on Anegada to thrive.
