Wyndel Beyde makes history for Aruba at Carifta 2024

Aruba’s 16-year drought from the Carifta winners’ podium was broken on Saturday when Wyndel Beyde won the silver medal in the Boys’ Under-17 1500 metres event at the 2024 Carifta Games in Grenada.  

He clocked a time of 4.12.80s, giving Aruba its first medal in 16 years.  

The Aruba Athletic Federation in its congratulations posted: “History has been made in Grenada. After many years we finally made it to a medal at the Carifta Games. Wyndell Beyde won the silver medal in the 1500m U17 event. Cannot explain the feelings right now…Beyond Proud.” 

In the 50-year history of the Carifta Games, Aruba has won a total of four medals. Aruba’s last medal was won in 2007. 

The 51st Carifta Games is being held at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium in Grenada.
