Tropical Storm Kirk becomes a hurricane

Tropical Storm Kirk, the eleventh named storm of the 2024 hurricane season became a hurricane late Tuesday as sustained winds increased to 75mph. Kirk is moving northwest at 12 mph. 

Forecasters have predicted that Kirk will become a major hurricane by Thursday before turning away from the US.

However, they do not see any possibility of impact on land as Kirk is likely to remain over the water.

As of 11am today, the storm was located at 15.3°N latitude and 39.2°W longitude, approximately 1,010 miles (1,630 km) west of the Cabo Verde Islands, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).

Kirk has seen its maximum sustained winds increase to 70 mph (110 km/h).

No watches or warnings have been issued.
