Tropical Depression Alberto fades away

Tropical Depression Alberto, the first named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, has dissipated according to the National Hurricane Center.

The storm had weakened as of 5 pm ET Thursday but according to the centre more rainfall is expected.

Before its downgrade, Tropical Storm Alberto caused significant flooding in parts of Mexico and Texas, leading to at least four reported fatalities.

As of Thursday evening, Alberto’s center was approximately 260 miles west of Tampico, Mexico, and 380 miles southwest of Brownsville, Texas.

The storm’s maximum sustained winds decreased to 30 miles per hour from an earlier peak of 50 miles per hour on Thursday, while its westward movement remained steady at around 24 miles per hour.
