Tornado watch issued for Antigua and Barbuda

Tornado watch issued for Antigua and Barbuda

A tornado watch is in effect for Antigua and Barbuda until 3 pm on Sunday.

The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service says unstable weather conditions will possibly result in tornadoes somewhere near or within the specified watch area.

It says the risk to life and property is medium. A tornado watch means that conditions are favourable for the development of tornadoes in and close to the watch area.

According to the met office, potential impacts include injury or death, damaged or destroyed homes, businesses and other structures; extensive property loss; disruption to power, communication, transportation and other services and roll vehicles.

Related thunderstorms can cause heavy rains and flash flooding.

The public is advised to continue to monitor these hazardous, life-threatening conditions.
