Team Grenada bags 14 medals at Carifta Swimming Championships
Grenada leaves The Bahamas with 14 medals overall after competing at the 37th Carifta Swimming Championships and the 5-K Open Water competition held in The Bahamas.
Team Grenada won seven silver and seven bronze medals.
The Grenada Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) says the team’s performance deserves tremendous commendation and each member comprising the team deserves special praise, since everyone contributed in their own way.
GASA says several personal best times were achieved. Those who did not medal, swam well and, in several cases, obtained two or more personal bests.
Apart from the personal bests, a huge majority of the team from each age category made it to the finals in either all, or most of their events.
GASA notes most significantly the 14 medals obtained among Zackary Gresham, Tilly Collymore, Gabrielle Hyson, Sara Dowden and Anaika Otway is evidence that Grenada’s swimmers are quite capable of achieving greater successes, once they continue to train hard.
Special commendation was paid to Tilly Collymore and Jacob Collymore, the two Open Water competitors of the competitions who the Association says swam excellently. Tilly added to the fourteenth medal from the Open Water having placed second, while Jacob competing for the first time in the CARIFTA Open Water competition did a great swim in 1:09:31.75 and placed 8th. Tilly’s time among the females was 1:10:28.29.
GASA says it’s proud of the team’s performance and congratulates the athletes for their efforts.
