St Vincent’s Agriculture minister featured as an FAO food hero

Saboto Caesar, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries for St Vincent and the Grenadines, has been highlighted as a Food Hero by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) as World Food Day is recognised globally.

The theme for this year’s World Food Day is, “Right to Food for a Better Life and a Better Future.”

The FAO is celebrating the work of #FoodHeroes- the women, men, boys and girls who are helping to realise the right to food for all, nurturing communities and making a positive change, even under challenging circumstances.

SVG’s Minister of Agriculture in an FAO feature said growing up he saw the struggles of farmers and was also witness to the decline of SVG’s banana industry in the 90s.

After seeing this, Caesar said he vowed one day to give back.

Caesar said as a Minister of Agriculture, addressing food security is a top priority for him.

The FAO article noted that Caesar is currently working to rebuild the country’s status as the breadbasket of the Southern Caribbean.
