St Kitts: Claude Makélélé appointed as Technical Advisor at SKNFA
Former French football star, Claude Makélélé, has arrived in St Kitts and Nevis to take on a role as technical advisor of the country’s football association.
Makélélé,50, arrived on the island on Saturday and was greeted by St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association (SKNFA) President Atiba Harris, Prime Minister Terrance Drew and Minister of Sports Samal Duggins at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport.
Makélélé, a former Real Madrid and Chelsea player and advisor, said he’s looking forward to working with SKNFA to improve football on the island.
“I think football is one of the sports that could move a generation in a good way. I will do my best and give all that I know,” he said.
Makélélé stated football has given him a lot and he wants to share his wealth of experience with the players.
The Prime Minister hailed Makélélé’s arrival on St Kitts and Nevis as a “momentous occasion” for the small federation.
“This initiative by the SKNFA to have you (Makélélé) in St Kitts and Nevis to be an advisor to our football development is indeed a momentous occasion. This is the type of innovation and forward thinking that we are looking for to develop sports. Sports is an area that can really help to propel our country forward,” Drew said as he welcomed the sporting star.
The Sugar Boys will get their first opportunity to use some of the skills learnt from Makélélé when they play St Martin on March 23rd in Anguilla.
