Shaun Gill retires from sprinting, launches fundraiser for grad school

Belizan Olympian Shaun Gill has called time on his track and field career.

Gill,31, who is Belize’s only Olympic representative at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France, announced the move after he competed in the Men’s 100 metre sprint preliminaries.

“The place or position you are at now, GOD has circled on the map for you. Every moment and every encounter happens for your personal development. Farewell to my incredible career. Track and Field has been great to me,” Gill wrote in a social media post.

The two-time Olympian is now turning his focus to academics.

 

 

He was recently accepted to pursue a master’s degree in management studies at the Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

Gill launched a Gofundme campaign to raise money to follow his dreams.

“This opportunity is a dream come true, and I am determined to make the most of it, but I need your support to get there,” he wrote on the Gofundme.

The Belize City native is seeking to raise US$25,000 and he has so far raised US$2,715.
