Penruddocke & Perinchief to lead Bermuda at Olympics Opening Ceremony

The Bermuda Olympic Association (BOC) has selected Adriana Penruddocke and Jah-Nhai Perinchief to be the country’s flag bearers at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games.

BOC said both athletes were chosen because they “exemplify the spirit of Bermuda and embody the values of sportsmanship and excellence.”

Penruddocke, a sailor, was the first Bermudian athlete to qualify for the Olympic games. This is her first time at an Olympic Games.

Perinchief competes in the triple jump and is a bronze medallist from the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. The 26-year-old was the final athlete on Team Bermuda to book his ticket to Paris.

Bermuda will be fielding a team of eight athletes in Paris.

Commenting on the team selection, Chef de Mission, Katura Horton-Perinchief said: “The opportunity to carry the Bermuda flag into an Olympic stadium is undoubtedly one of the most prestigious honours the Bermuda Olympic Association can bestow upon an athlete. Adriana and Jah-Nhai, as brand new additions to the Olympic fraternity, will represent the island with pride, showcasing the beauty and diversity of the berth of sporting talent Bermuda has to offer the globe. They are two of Bermuda’s best and I’m truly ecstatic for both of them.”

The Olympic Games is set to take place from July 26 to August 11.
