Over 3,000 pounds of cocaine seized at DR port en route to Germany
Dominican Republic authorities have intercepted a large shipment of cocaine at the port of Boca Chica in Santo Domingo, marking one of the most significant drug busts in the country this year.
The operation, part of new anti-narcotics strategies, resulted in the seizure of over 3,000 pounds of cocaine destined for Hamburg, Germany.
The illicit cargo was discovered during a routine inspection of containers arriving from South America. Anti-narcotics agents and military personnel, following established protocols, detected inconsistencies in one of the containers, prompting a thorough examination.
Upon investigation, officials found 317 boxes of lemons concealing 1,585 packages of cocaine.
The drugs were camouflaged within the fruit shipment, which originated from the port of Santa Marta, Colombia, and was in transit through the Dominican Republic. Its final destination was Hamburg, Germany.
This seizure is the third-largest cocaine confiscation at the Multimodal Caucedo port and the largest drug interception in the country this year.
