NHC lowers hurricane forecast for tropical wave in Central Atlantic
The US National Hurricane Centre has downgraded the potential for a tropical wave in the Central Tropical Atlantic to become this year’s next hurricane.
In the forecast on July 2, NHC said the wave, which has been dubbed Invest 96L, now has a 30 per cent chance to develop into a tropical cyclone over the next seven days.
“Environmental conditions are only marginally conducive for development of this system while it moves generally westward at 15 to 20 mph across the western tropical Atlantic and eastern Caribbean Sea,” NHC said.
The wave is located 1,000 miles east-southeast of the Windward Islands and it is producing limited shower and thunderstorm activity.
