NHC expects TD 7 to become a tropical storm today
Tropical Depression Seven is expected to become the latest tropical storm of this year’s hurricane season.
In the forecast this morning, the US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) said TD Seven will gradually strengthen over the next 48 hours and it could become a tropical storm later today.
When TD Seven becomes a tropical storm, it will be called Gordon.
At 5 am, TD Seven was located about 970 kilometres west of the Cabo Verde Islands. The storm has maximum sustained winds near 35 mph (55 km/h).
Forecasters expect the system to move west-northwest at around 17 mph (28km/h), and then slow down over the next few days.
