New low-pressure system being watched, minimal development expected
Forecasters at the US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) are monitoring a new area of low pressure in the Western Atlantic Ocean.
NHC said the system, which is located a few hundred miles southeast of Bermuda, is producing a small area of disorganised shower and thunderstorm activity.
“Dry air and strong upper-level winds are expected to limit additional development of this system during the next day or so while the low moves northward to north-north-eastward at around 10 miles per hour,” NHC said.
Meanwhile, environmental conditions continue to appear to be favourable for an area of low pressure to form in the central portion of the Tropical Atlantic in a few days.
The system, which is located east of the Caribbean islands, has a 20 per cent chance of development into a tropical cyclone over the next seven days.
