Monelle Alexis launches platform to streamline job hunting in Dominica

If you see a problem, fix it.

That was the approach Monelle Alexis adopted as she sought to make job hunting easier for hundreds of people in Dominica looking to enter the world of work or advance their career on the tiny Eastern Caribbean Island.

Alexis has created the platform dominicavacancies.com, which allows both job seekers and employers to converge in one place where they can connect, explore opportunities, and streamline the hiring process.

Alexis shared with Loop News that her motivation for developing the employment platform was came as she reflected on the challenges she faced during her pursuit of personal and career growth.

“In 2022, I was at a turning point, eager for a new career path. My search was exhaustive, repeatedly combing through all media in Dominica and online, even spending $500 monthly for better job prospects. It was overwhelming, and I nearly gave up. Also, working at Dominica State College as the Public Relations and Recruitment Officer, I saw the challenges in recruitment and the high cost associated with it,” Alexis said.

“I quickly learned I’m not the only one with the negative experiences. So, driven to solve a problem for all Dominicans, I created a job board despite my lack of technical expertise. I meticulously evaluated existing platforms, encountered numerous setbacks, and taught myself web development. I invested my resources and endured site crashes, but my persistence ultimately led to success. I encountered a problem I needed to fix.”

Alexis said platform eliminates the need for Dominicans to go hopping from place to place looking for job openings and candidates.

Can you imagine all job seekers and employers pouring into one platform to find their perfect match? This platform solves two significant issues- high cost for recruitment/advertising vacancies and sourcing job opportunities in Dominica,” Alexis stated.

DominicaVacancies.com offers job seekers the ability to set up email alerts, directly apply for job postings and resources for researching potential employers.

Employers can also access a diverse talent pool and contact candidates directly for a nominal fee.

The site is free for job seekers and Alexis is allowing employers to post openings for free until December 31.

Alexis is encouraging both job seekers and employers to make use of the platform.

“Please make the most of the platform; I built it for you. I want you to have a better experience than me. Job seekers sign up and set up alerts for instant notifications of new opportunities. Upload your resume for quick, one-click applications. Employers, post your vacancies at dominicavacancies.com and experience a user-friendly, data-driven dashboard that enhances your hiring process while saving you money,” she added.
