Grenadian chess prodigy makes history at Budapest Olympiad
At just 17 years old, Grenadian chess sensation Renniel Gilbert has etched his name in the history books by earning the prestigious title of FIDE Master at the 45th Budapest Chess Olympiad.
This historic achievement has placed Grenada firmly on the global chess map.
Competing against the world’s best, Gilbert navigated the challenging tournament with aplomb, securing an impressive 7 wins, 1 draw, and 2 losses, totaling 7.5 points out of 10 games.
This remarkable performance has catapulted the young Grenadian into the ranks of the world’s elite chess players.
The FIDE Master title is the third-highest accolade in the sport of chess, ranking just below International Master and Grandmaster.
The young chess prodigy’s triumph is a remarkable milestone not only for Grenada but also for the Caribbean region, which has historically been underrepresented in the international chess arena.
Commendations are rolling in from all across Grenada. Pure Grenada wrote: “May your journey continue to soar, and may you keep shining as a beacon of excellence for future generations.”
