Flora Duffy proud of comeback despite 5th place finish at Paris 2024
Former Olympic women triathlon champion Flora Duffy has mixed feelings about her race last week after she finished fifth in the competition.
Duffy, who competed in her fifth Olympic Games, had only just returned to competition after an injury.
In an Instagram post, the Tokyo 2020 champion said she was proud of herself despite not being able to successfully defend her title or win a medal for Bermuda.
Duffy finished the race in 1:56:12 just over two minutes behind the winner Cassandre Beaugrand of France.
“It was a long journey to get to the start line and I’m proud of how I raced and went for it from the start. During my long injury, I’d lost belief in myself and didn’t know if I still had my racing edge but it seems it’s still there. Unfortunately, my run legs didn’t show up on the day, and that’s racing. I was moving well in the final weeks and believed a medal was within reach,” Duffy wrote.
“I have mixed feelings about my race now but I think with time, I’ll be very proud of it and everything it took to get there. On a lighter note, I’ll forever be proud of my swim.”
Duffy thanked her supporters, who flooded the Champ Elysees with Bermudian flags, for their encouragement.
