DR’s Marileidy Paulino wins Diamond League title in Brussels
Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino continues to show why she is a force to be reckoned with as she stormed to victory in the women’s 400 metres at the Diamond League Final in Brussels on Friday at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme.
Paulino, 27, of the Dominican Republic, outran the competition in 49.45s to take the Diamond League title. At the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Paulino won gold in the women’s 400m and set a new Olympic record.
At today’s Diamond League Final, she was chased by the USA’s Alexis Holmes who had to settle for second place with a time of 50.32s. Finishing third was Rhasidat Adeleke of Ireland with a time of 50.96s.
Sada Williams of Barbados finished in seventh place with a time of 52.68s.
According to the Wanda Diamond League rules, all 32 Diamond League Champions (one man and one woman in each of the 16 disciplines) are crowned over two days of athletics action at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme in Brussels.
Each champion is awarded a prestigious “Diamond Trophy”, US$ 30,000 prize money and a wild card for the World Athletics Championships (certain conditions apply).
