Dom Rep extradites dual citizen to US on fentanyl trafficking charges

The Dominican Republic has extradited Edwin José Antigua Ramos, a 30-year-old dual U.S.-Dominican citizen, to the United States.

Ramos, who initially captured in June 2024 faces charges of criminal association to distribute 400 grams or more of a mixture containing fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid.

The extradition was carried out by the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic (PGR) and agents of the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), with support from U.S. Marshals.

Ramos was transferred to the International Airport of the Americas under heavy security provided by tactical and reaction units before being handed over to U.S. officials.

“This surrender is provided on the condition that the U.S. national and Dominican citizen, Edwin José Antigua Ramos, under no circumstances will he be tried for violations other than those that motivate his extradition,” the Presidential Decree states.
