Crimefighters Press For Breakthrough In Five Cays Murder
Crime sleuths from the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF) are combing through evidence, hoping to find clues that could lead them to the triggerman, who snuffed out the life of a Five Cays resident on Sunday.
The dead man has been identified as 33 year-old Jerome Merveille of the community.
Reports are that at about 9.33 a.m. the Police Control Room received was bombarded with calls from residents of that community that a barrage of explosions were heard in the vicinity of the Liz Bakery, off Five Cays Road.
RTCIPF officers, along with medical first responders rushed to the scene, and upon arrival, found the lifeless body of a male, lying face down in a pool of blood, with what appeared to be gunshot wounds about the body.
At post time, officers were feverishly piecing evidence together that could lead them to the criminal responsible for Merveille’s gun murder.
Dean Holden, Superintendent in charge of Crime, Safeguarding and Public Protection said the RTICPF theorized that Merveille was targeted by his assailants, that that it appears multiple gunmen carried out the act.
“We believe the man who was killed was targeted by a number of men who were armed,” Holden said, while calling on the community to assist in the solving of this murder and other crimes.
“If you have a family member or a friend or know someone that is involved in illegal activities who has an illegal firearm, do something that will save their life. Report them by contacting Crime Stoppers or the closest police station. Urge them to hand in their guns,” Holden urged.
In the meantime, the RTCIPF is advising the public to notify the closest police station or to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 and give any information of illegal activity anonymously.
