Carifta 2024: Grenada’s swim team nets 7 medals and scouting more

Team Grenada has obtained seven medals in the first two days of swimming competitions at the 37th Carifta Aquatics Championships in The Bahamas.

Grenada has acquired three bronze and four gold medals and is looking forward to winning more on Monday evening.

The Grenada Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) in an update says thus far, today’s preliminaries saw some exciting qualifications and alternates for this evening’s finals. The Association said Grenada seems poised for an addition to its already stack of seven medals obtained.

Apart from this morning’s qualifications for the finals, team members also obtained personal best (PB’s) times in some of their events, while some will be there as alternates.

GASA noted that despite the team’s tragic situation experienced by the sad loss of one of the team member’s dad, the swimmers have shown true Grenadian resilience in continuing to compete to the best of their abilities.

“We must make special mention of Sara Dowden, our 400 IM swimmer of yesterday and 200 IM swimmer of this morning, who despite the tragic experience of the loss of her dad, did excellent swims which led her to obtaining a bronze medal in the 400 IM of yesterday, the day after her father’s passing. In an interview with a ZNS reporter after the 400 IM yesterday, Dowden expressed appreciation to the Bahamians for their kindness and support and stated to them that she swam that race for her dad.”

GASA anticipates more medals at this evening’s finals, along with some great swims.
