Caribbean sprinters advance to 100m semis at World U20 Champs
Three Caribbean athletes have advanced to the men’s 100 metre semi-finals at the World Under-20 Athletics Championships in Lima, Peru.
Leading the regional charge are Jamaican’s Gary Card and Deandre Daley, who won their heats to advance to the semis as automatic qualifiers.
Daley won with a time of 10.37 seconds and Card clocked 10.40 seconds to be ranked as the seventh and eighth fastest qualifiers.
Bahamian Carlos Brown Jr’s qualification was not as easy as the Jamaican duo as he had to wait on the sidelines hoping for a non-automatic spot.
The 18-year-old finished in fifth place in Heat Five with a time of 10.48 seconds.
After the eight heats, he advanced as the second fastest non-automatic qualifier.
Luck was not on the side of his countryman Jeremiah Adderley, who finished eighth in Heat Three.
Also competing today were Che Jean-Marc Wickham from Trinidad and Tobago, Norre Robinson from Bermuda, Brandon Pemberton from the US Virgin Islands, Kadeem Larcher from St Lucia, Ezekiel Newton from Guyana, and Miguel Angel Martes from the Dominican Republic.
