British-Guyanese politician appointed UK’s Foreign Affairs Secretary

David Lammy, a British politician of Guyanese parentage has been appointed as Britain’s new Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs.

Lammy is the son of Guyanese parents David and Rosalind Lammy .

He expressed gratitude for his new role in a tweet saying: “The world faces huge challenges, but we will navigate them with the UK’s enormous strengths.

The 51-year-old is affiliated with the Labour Party.

He has served as the Member of Parliament for Tottenham since the 2000 by-election and has been Labour’s spokesman for international affairs for more than two years.

Britain’s new Prime Minister Keir Starmer made the appointment today after his party won by a landslide over Rishi Sunak’s Conservatives on Thursday night.
