Barbuda cruise visits to jump from 2 to 23 ships next season
Barbuda is poised for an unprecedented surge in cruise tourism, with 23 luxury cruise ships scheduled to visit the island during the 2024-2025 season. This represents a dramatic increase from the traditional one or two vessels that typically visit the island annually.
The announcement, made at the recent Antigua Cruise Connect Conference, signals a transformative shift in the twin-island nation’s tourism landscape. The expansion is expected to bring approximately 5,000 passengers to Barbuda’s shores, according to Antigua Cruise Port officials.
The target market for these cruises consists primarily of luxury travellers seeking isolated, exclusive experiences, with Barbuda being positioned as a private island destination. This strategic positioning aligns with the island’s natural attributes and limited development.
The development is part of a broader expansion of cruise tourism across both islands. Antigua’s dual cruise facilities are also projecting significant activity for the upcoming season.
Falmouth Harbour is scheduled for 58 calls, while Heritage Quay expects 351 visits, bringing the combined total to 432 cruise calls.
Current tourism figures indicate strong momentum in the sector. The 2023-2024 season is already setting records, with passenger numbers projected to reach 811,931 across 425 calls, marking a 7.5% increase from the previous year.
