Aiden by Best Western opens its doors in Guyana
Guyana’s hospitality sector just got a bit bigger with the opening of a new Aiden by Best Western hotel in the capital city.
The hotel celebrated its grand opening last evening with a ceremony attended by prominent figures in Guyanese society, including President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali.
The nine-story property, situated at the corner of Oronoque and Robb streets, features 138 rooms along with various dining and other amenities. It will provide employment for over 70 Guyanese.
Construction work on the hotel began in March 2021 and it was funded by a US $15 million loan from the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI).
The hotel is operated by Arimu Investments— a 100 per cent Guyanese-owned company.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, President Dr Irfaan Ali praised Arimu Investments for investing in a project that will help boost Guyana’s economy.
“We are trying to build an economy by 2030 that will have at least three million people passing through annually to utilise the services that we are building in our economy,” Ali said.
Ali added that he is convinced “beyond the shadow of a doubt” that the country is heading in the right direction to achieve the goal of making Guyana an attractive place to visit and invest in.
Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Oneidge Walrond described the hotel as a “visionary project” which aligns with the government’s developmental plans.
“Today’s opening of the Aiden by Best Western is proof of what can be achieved when the private sector and government work hand in hand to develop our tourism products,” Walrond said.
