WATCH: Dolphins rescued in The Bahamas
Five dolphins were rescued from a location at Blackbeard’s Cay/Balmoral Island in The Bahamas.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Affairs in a statement said the dolphins named Fiona, Harry, Diamond, Justice and Pigeon were transported between last night and this morning to Atlantis’ Animal Care facility for further observation, medical attention and continued care.
The ministry assured the mammals are safe and stated more details will be forthcoming.
It thanked the Department of Marine Resources, Atlantis, the Royal Bahamas Defense Force and the former caretaker Louis Arthuro for their collective efforts in this rescue.
The dolphins’ plight was brought to the public’s attention after a petition was started by Dolphin Project, a non-profit charitable organisation, dedicated to the welfare and protection of dolphins worldwide.
