Increase in sexual assault against children, women – TCI Daily News
Superintendent of Police Dean Holden recently confirmed that the Turks and Caicos Islands has seen a rise in sexual assault against children and women.
“There is an increase in those sexual offences. While that’s regrettable in terms of victims of crime, it also supports our approach in terms of engendering confidence in the Police to report these offenses,” he said during a recent press conference. “Invariably, these offenses are routinely under reported, so we’ve had an increase. However, part of that is because we’ve had more engagement with communities, in particular with our safeguarding and protection unit to encourage people to come forward on those matters.”
