Title revoked from Belize’s 2023 Queen of the Bay

The Association of Former Queens of the Bay and the National Queen of the Bay Committee have announced the revocation of Kendall Morgan’s title as the 78th Queen of the Bay in Belize.

The decision, made public on August 13 comes after months of controversy surrounding Morgan’s reign.

According to the official statement, Morgan repeatedly violated the terms of her contract, signed on November 23, 2023.

The organizations cite “instances of bullying, cyberbullying, and general discourteous and disrespectful behaviour” as key factors in their decision.

“This decision was not taken lightly,” the joint statement reads. “The Association and the National Committee have collectively sought numerous avenues to ensure that Ms. Morgan could complete her reign on September 10, 2024.”

The press release highlights specific violations of the contract, quoting Section 5: “She will, at all times, comport herself in a manner befitting of the dignity and image of the Queen of the Bay. (This will also include posts made on social media.) If at any time her conduct is considered to have a negative or demeaning effect to the title of Queen of the Bay, the Committee has the right to caution her verbally and in writing and advise that if such behavior persists three (3) times the committee will proceed to rescind the Crown.”

The organizations claim to have made multiple attempts to support Morgan, offering “advice, counsel, guidance and even professional help,” all of which were reportedly declined. A series of warnings and meetings culminated in a final attempt to salvage the situation on July 24, 2024, when Morgan’s interactions with pageant candidates were limited.

Despite these efforts, the statement asserts that “the violations continued.”

The Association and Committee declared, “We do wish Ms. Morgan all the best in her future endeavors. Even at this stage, both the Association and the Committee are here to support her, if and when she decides to accept the help.”

Morgan will retain her prizes, including a property in Belize Rural and a bachelor’s degree scholarship to the University of Belize.

The title of Queen of the Bay will now pass to the first runner-up of the 78th Queen of the Bay Pageant.
