Flash flood alert issued for Western Antigua

The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service has issued a flash flood warning for flood-prone low-lying areas, primarily on Antigua’s western side.

The warning is expected to last until 4 pm.

The adverse weather is because of a westward moving tropical wave affecting the leeward islands, the Met Service said.

The Met Service said moderate to major flooding can occur in the warning area.

“If you are in low lying or flood prone areas, move quickly to higher ground immediately. Residents living along streams, creeks, low lying, and flood prone areas should take immediate precautions to protect life and property. Do not attempt to cross swiftly flowing waters or waters of unknown depth by foot or by vehicle,” the Met Service said.

“Note, just one foot of flowing water could be enough to sweep a car off the road. When encountering flooded roads be extremely cautious, and if in doubt, make the smart choice, turn around don’t drown.”
